Devon Samuel Collins' Obituary
Devon Samuel Collins, born December 1, 1981, in San Diego County, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 7, 2022, of a heart attack.
Determined and vivacious, Devon was loyal to and protective of his family and friends. He possessed a boundless talent for self-expression, frequently articulating himself through his love of singing, baking signature desserts, and crafting grand floral arrangements for his mother, husband, and loved ones. He enjoyed any opportunity for variety and excitement, whether paddle boarding on the bay, or skydiving from an airplane.
Those lucky enough to truly get to know him grew to cherish his complexity. He loved deeply and with the entirety of his soul. A competitive spirit, especially with a pool cue, he could always be counted on to dish up some (good-natured) trash-talk as the occasion warranted. But, if you were ever a lucky recipient of one of his heartfelt, handwritten notes, you knew immediately how much admiration he could share too. Frequently showing a wild and carefree attitude, Devon was also sentimental and sensitive. Not a single episode of America’s Got Talent went by without bringing tears to his eyes. Like all of us, Devon was not perfect, but these imperfections were truly eclipsed by his vibrant and sparkling personality. He was an inspiration to so many of us. The world is a much dimmer place without him in it.
Devon is survived by his mother and father, Charlotte and Dale Collins of Escondido, his sister, Acacia Harrison, and her husband Ben, of San Diego, his husband of 9 years, Douglas Rehg, and their husky, Samson, of San Diego.
A celebration of Devon’s life will be held on Sunday September 11th, 2022 from 1pm to 5pm at The Point, 1010 Santa Clara Pl, San Diego, CA 92109. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made to The San Diego Humane Society in his memory (https://www.sdhumane.org/support-us/ways-to-give/tribute-gifts.html). Cards and notes of remembrance can be sent to PO Box 300934, Escondido CA 92030.
