Dolores Velez Bonner's Obituary
Dolores Velez Bonner, lovingly known as Lola, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2024, in San Diego, California. She was born on April 9, 1922, in Pueblo Nuevo Guanajuato, Mexico. In her hometown in Mexico, she owned a successful merchandise business in the marketplace. When she moved to California, she worked in Del Rey, picking fields before eventually settling in San Diego with her husband George Bonner. There, she was known for making delicious handmade tortillas at a local restaurant. She also made pineapple tamales and candies which were legendary, loved by all who tasted them.
Despite her petite stature, Lola had a big heart and was known for her generosity that touched the lives of many. As a devout Christian, Lola dedicated herself to helping the less fortunate. The ice cream man recalled how she not only fed him but also provided him with clothes during his difficult times, even inviting him to attend church with her.
Lola was a woman of many talents and passions. She cherished spending time with the women of her church, joyfully crocheting with them. She had the best roses in the block, and her neighbors often admired them.
Despite her private nature, Lola loved bright, happy colors and enjoyed dressing stylishly. One of Lola's proudest accomplishments was purchasing a house in the United States, which offered her children opportunities for growth. She valued her family and she worked tirelessly to create a better future for them. Lola found solace in her Christian beliefs. She often quoted her life motto, "Une dia mas, une dia menos" (One day more, one day less), reminding herself to embrace every day fully. She leaves behind beautiful memories of her bright blue eyes, her angelic voice, and her laughter. Lola's quick wit and knack for jokes endeared her to everyone she met. Her legacy of resilience and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She is survived by her loving family and friends, who will hold her memory close. May she rest in eternal peace.
