Donald Leroy Browne's Obituary
Donald L. Browne was born in Hooper, Nebraska on August 8, 1915 and left us to be with mom again on March 9, 2017. He was one of the best men I ever knew and always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He and my mother met when he was working for Western Union in Kansas and she was a waitress in the hotel cafeteria. Three days later, they were married. They were married fifty-two years, until mom passed, in 1992. On their first wedding anniversary his reserve unit was called to active duty. He served in the Navy during WWII and was on two different ships that sank, a MineSweeper and a Destroyer. After the second he was listed as missing in action ad was finally found six months later in a hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. When he got out of the Navy he was going back to Nebraska to take over his father’s Cab Company but mom didn’t want to live in the snow anymore so he went to work for the Telephone Company, until he retired after thirty-seven years. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Cordell and son, Larry Browne. He has eight grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren
