Donald Scott Cortell's Obituary
Donald Scott "Donnie" Cortell, 65, passed away on March 5, 2025, in Basin, Wyoming.
Donnie was born on February 2, 1960, in San Diego, California, and grew up in National City, California. He attended Sweetwater High School, where he developed a passion for sports, wrestling and playing football during his school years. His love for the game extended beyond his own participation—he found great joy in coaching football and mentoring young athletes.
Throughout his life, Donnie had an undeniable love for his family and a heart of gold. He cherished time spent with his family, cousins and friends during his youth and carried that same warmth into adulthood. He had an infectious laugh that brought joy to those around him and made friends wherever he went.
Donnie had a deep passion for cooking, especially grilling. He loved a good barbecue and took pride in preparing meals that brought people together. His enthusiasm for sports never diminished —he remained a devoted Raiders fan throughout his life.
He spent many years living in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Riverton and Basin, Wyoming, where he embraced life fully and built lasting friendships along the way.
Donnie is survived by his sisters Georgianna Cortell, Deborah Cortell, and Holly Cortell, brother Ron Cortell (Sabrina), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, and cousins who love and miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail Scott Cortell and Raphael Barbarus Cortell Jr., as well as his beloved wife, Dixie Cortell.
Donnie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his laughter and kindness continue to bring comfort to all who loved him.
