Donald Creighton's Obituary
San Diego – Don Creighton was born in Black Pool England in 1928. He was a Widower of the late Colette Creighton/ formerly Bergeron, and the last surviving of 3 brothers. Don was very close to his younger brother James Creighton. /Daddio/ is survived by his only child, daughter Christine, and her 2 sons Derek and Brenton with her husband Don Gill/ from San Diego, CA. Other extended family that survive include Brothers-in-Law Andre and Micheal Bergeron and nieces/nephews Danielle/ Paul, Andre Jr, and Denise Bergeron, all of Ottawa, Ontario Canada. As a Deacon in the Russian Orthodox Church serving the parish of Our Lady of Kazan in San Diego, with the Reverend Father Ramon Merlos, ‘Father Michael’ faithfully served his parishioners for decades, including volunteer clergy service at UCSD Hospital upon his retirement from Schering Plough. Don converted to Orthodoxy, from the Anglican Catholic Church in July 1983. As a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative/ Don enjoyed an extraordinary career with Schering Plough, based out of San Diego, CA that spanned 4 decades. He got his start in Retail Sales working for Coca- Cola in Ottawa, Canada, and then transitioned to Johnson & Johnson, where he covered much of Canada from 1958-1966 learning the ropes from one of the great retail companies of the time. The family then relocated to San Diego, CA, when Don transitioned to Schering and pharmaceutical sales. Don s Sales career was one that his contemporaries marveled at and included numerous accolades, including multiple Salesman of the Year awards. In 1952 Don married his lifetime love, Colette Bergeron. Their union in Ottawa, Canada challenged accepted norms as they mixed religions, but Don and Colette formed an everlasting bond. They moved to San Diego, CA in the late 60’s where Christine was raised in University City and attended Stella Maris Academy and Our Lady of Peace High School. Don was widowed in October 2005 after Colette lost her battle with failing kidneys. His final years of retirement were spent continuing to mentor his proteges at Schering and providing expanded service to his parish and volunteer clergy services at local hospitals. Don was known for his ability to ripple off jokes, excelling at this Salesman’s skill, ribald laughter and for his infamous representations of /Your #1/. He was a stole conservative who espoused the hard work ethic and fiscal responsibility that emanated from the depression era. He loved his family and friends and will be missed greatly be all who were blessed to know him. Services will initiate on November 17, 2016 at Greenwood Mortuary 4300 Imperial Ave. San Diego, CA 92113/ with viewing from 5-9 PM and the Panaheda liturgy at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be conducted at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, located at 3025 Denver St. San Diego, CA 92117 at 10:30 AM the following day (11/18/16), Internment immediately following at El Camino Memorial Park located at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121 . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Ranch for Children at 5005 McLeod Drive, Las Vegas/ NV 89120.
