Dora Lee Handsbur's Obituary
"A WOMAN OF SERVICE"
Dora Lee Handsbur, age 82, of San Diego, CA died December 12, 2022.
Dora was the youngest child of the late Alline Crowder, and born September 8, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas.
She married Leverne Handsbur in 1957 in Lubbock, Texas, and
relocated to San Diego in the late 50's. Six children were born to this union.
She lived most of her life in San Diego County and worked in the medical field for over 40 years. She retired from both Children's and Sharp Hospitals. Dora became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 1973
and served faithfully as a Deaconess, a Trustee and a faithful member of the choir. She served on many of the church committees and it's why she's recognized as a "Woman of Service". She served on these committees until sickness prevented her from being active in
church. Dora opened her home to many. If you needed a meal, she was there to feed you, and give you a place to lay your head to rest if needed.
God called her from labor and blessed her with her wings on December 12, 2022 at 10:40pm.
Dora was preceded in
death by her ex-husband Laverne Handsbur of Lubbock, Texas, two sisters, Ossie Lee Reed of Harrold, Texas and Mary Sue Ramsey of San Diego, CA and one brother, Eugene Ray of Omaha, Texas.
Those left to cherish her memory include five daughters and one son.
Jewelene, Melanie Williams, Patricia, Shirley, Billie and Sonny Handsbur, all of San Diego, CA. Three grand children, Rechell Williams, Denise and Jazmine Bighom, all of San Diego, CA & four great-grand children. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and more family/friends than you can imagine, who loved her dearly.
