Celebrating the life of Doris M. Ballard July 9, 1920 – February 1, 2018Doris Ruth Manning was born in Olathe, Kansas on July 9th, 1920 to her proud parents, John S. Manning and Willa Lou (Daniels) Manning. Doris was the fourth of twelve children. She grew up and went to school in Olathe. After high school graduation she attended Kansas City School of Beauty Culture and began a career as a hair stylist in 1939. In December 1940 , she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Elton Ballard Sr. After a very short courtship Doris and Bill married and honeymooned their way to San Diego where Bill had secured a job with the federal government. Doris and Bill were married over 64 years. From their loving union came a beautiful family of 4 children. Doris dedicated most of her life creating a loving home and caring for her family. She was very supportive and involved in her children’s (grandchildren/great grandchild’s) school and other activities. Doris loved to garden, read, sew, quilt, play games and enjoy her family. After Bill retired, they spent almost 25 years traveling north, east, south, and west in their recreational vehicle. Doris passed away peacefully on February 1st, 2018 in Escondido, CA. She is predeceased by her husband, William E. Ballard Sr. and her granddaughter, Erin E. Ballard. She is survived by her 4 children: Bill Ballard Jr. (Patricia), Tom Ballard (Jinger), Betty Baran (Bob), Carolyn Reschke (Mark) , by her 3 grandchildren: Brian Ballard, Jon Rolph, Lisa Sparks (David): and by her great grandchild, Hailey Sparks; her brother George A. Manning (Rose), and sisters Jean Locke and Martha Cupp. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Doris was the heart of her loving family. She will truly be missed and her memories always cherished.
