Doris E Wynne's Obituary
A native of San Diego, she was born to Alva and Artie Hoine on November 30, 1918.Doris attended San Diego State College and was a member of Epsilon Pi Theta sorority where she made life-long friends including “a nice boy” named Willard Wynne, whom she met on the first day of Dr. Nasatir’s history class. Wynne caught her attention when copying off her class notes which was the start of their life together. The pair graduated college in 1940 with Doris earning a teaching degree and prior to their marriage on August 3, 1941, she taught in a one-room school house in Escondido. The couple moved to La Mesa in 1948 where they built an adobe house and raised their family. Doris continued her love of teaching at Central Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school classes for nearly half a century. She loved adventure whether camping in the desert, riding in the passenger seat of a jeep with the Tierra Del Sol jeep club, hiking up mountains (last hike was on her 95th birthday in Julian) or exploring countries like Morocco, Paris and Portugal. Family and friends enjoyed receiving Christmas cards which showed pictures from her adventures, such as sledding down a mine shaft in Germany, riding on the back of a camel in Egypt, leaning against the Great Wall of China, visiting a Moorish castle in Segovia, Spain, touring St. Petersburg, Russia, cruising the Bahamas and Virgin Islands, enjoying a gondola ride in Venice, Italy or simply kayaking in La Jolla Cove.Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard H. Wynne; and sister, Donna Luce. She is survived by her six daughters and their families including 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to your favorite charity in her memory.
