Dorothy Margaret Johnson's Obituary
On June 18, 2013, after a sudden illness, Dorothy Margaret Johnson, 88, joined her beloved husband Will for all eternity. Dotti was born on July 17, 1924, in Wind Lake, Wisconsin to parents Gerhard and Florence Johnson. She was a graduate of Rochester High School, Class of 1942. She worked at Burlington Mills as a bookkeeper and at Nestle during WWII. Dotti married Willis E. Johnson in August 1950, and the couple made their home in Burlington. In 1955, they moved to California, eventually settling in Chula Vista where they lived for over 35 years. In the 1960’s, Dotti joined Will in his high-seas adventures when he became owner and master of the 110 foot, ex-Navy subchaser, Yaqui Queen. For the next decade, Dotti could often be found in the Queen’s galley cooking for the crew. Camping was another large part of their lives and Dotti and Will were founding members of the Gypsies camping club. Dotti had a long working history in California and held jobs at Bekins Van Lines, Solar Turbines, Sunlight Electric, Teledyne Ryan, and General Dynamics/Electronics Division, retiring from that company in 1986. In 1987, Dotti and Will returned to their roots in Wisconsin, purchasing a 110 acre farm in Ladysmith. They visited the farm almost every summer from 1987 to 2004. Interested in genealogy, Dotti spent several years researching the many branches of the Johnson family. She was a long-time member of the San Diego and Chula Vista Genealogical Societies.Preceded in death by her husband Willis E. Johnson, Dorothy M. Johnson is survived by her sister, Doris Oberle, nephews John Oberle and James (Carolyn) Taylor, nieces Beverly (Wayne) Jensen, Susie (Robert) Mohr and Kris (Mike) Moras and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.Dotti was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.Inurnment: Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, CaliforniaGreenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary made the arrangements.
