Dorris Ronning's Obituary
Mrs. Doris “Gigi” Mae Ronning House gained her angel wings peacefully at Balboa Nursing and Rehab on Wednesday June 14th at 10:43 pm in San Diego, California at the age of 92. Doris is survived by her Son-in-Law Roy Staten, Grandchildren Candace (Raymond), RC (Loren), Angela, and 13 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen House; husband, Richard Ronning; and her beloved daughter, Kathleen Diane Staten.Doris was born on a Wednesday, February 11th, 1925 in Braddock, Pennsylvania to George and Helen House. In 1937 at the age of 12 Gigi and her parents relocated to Mission Hills in San Diego,California. Doris graduated from San Diego high School in January of 1943 with her Diploma. She then became involved with the USO doing war work during World War II in the production of airlines and parts supplied to the United States Army and Navy. Gigi loved going to dances and was named Pin-Up girl in 1946. On April 12th,1947 Doris married Richard Ronning, an active duty Marine. After moving to Bay Park, Doris and Richard welcomed their one and only daughter Kathleen on November 14th, 1953, who brought so much joy and happiness to them. Kathy grew up to become an amazing wife and mother and owed it to her loving parents who encouraged her to always do her best and pursue her goals.Gigi loved to travel with her close friends and was involved in various organizations where she worked and volunteered to include Ryan Aeronautical company, USO, San Diego City Schools food service, Catholic Daughters, Foresters, Discovery Cancer Society, Voting polls, Bingo food server, Walk About, and Kessler art Gallery. Even though she never drove a day in her life she never skipped a beat and was dedicated to living her life to the fullest; and that she definitely did, including drinking one pot of coffee or more a day. If you knew Gigi then you would have known that she was a diehard Charger fan who had season tickets for 37 years. She would also attend the yearly Charger Blood Drive and Fashion show to donate blood in helping save lives. Gigi was an active and dedicated member to her church, St. Mary Magdalene. She shared her unconditional love to many on a daily basis. She will always be remembered as a loving, kind-hearted, caring and dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend to many.
