Douglas G Fisher's Obituary
Douglas Fisher of San Diego, CA passed peacefully from this life into his eternal life on Sunday February 12, 2023 at 75 years old. He was born in Fresno, CA on March 8, 1947 to his mother, Lillian Kennedy, who raised him until he was 4 years old. From the age of 4 until he was 18 years old, Douglas lived with his foster mother Callie DeFoor who asked Douglas to fulfill a promise of going to a junior college and getting a job. He fulfilled that promise and more. Douglas graduated from Reedley Community College in Reedley, CA where he was inducted into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating from Reedley, he was then scouted by and offered a full scholarship from San Diego State University to play football and continue his academics there. Douglas played football for San Diego State University and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree graduating with a double major in sociology and marketing. Upon graduating from college, Douglas was drafted to play in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the Steelers as a defensive linebacker wearing the jersey #54. Douglas’s love of football continued throughout his lifetime attending and watching games with his friends and family. He never missed watching the Super Bowl even until the very end, he was surrounded by family watching Super Bowl LVII before peacefully passing in his sleep later that evening. In addition to a career in football, Douglas also worked for Union Oil, General Dynamics, and Compton’s New Media as a computer engineer. He loved going to the beach, singing karaoke, and enjoying life with family and friends. He loved living in San Diego and was a resident for 55 years. Douglas was preceded in death by his beloved parents-in-law, Walter Williams and Altha Coleman Williams. He is survived by his former wife, Cheryl Fisher whose friendship bond remained; their two daughters LaVonnya and Truth who love their dad forever and always; his devoted son-in-law Volker Bargenda; his two grandchildren Cannon and Halo who now have Grandpa “D” as their guardian angel; his best friend Bob Cornell; and puppy Blessing who provided unconditional love and comfort to Douglas. Douglas is deeply loved and will be missed by many. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, California with Pastor Rick Rojas officiating.
