Douglas Kester King's Obituary
On March 25, 2018, heaven’s brass band welcomed Douglas Kester King as he moved to his heavenly home.Doug was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Donald Harvey King and Sally Louise King (nee Kester). His family settled in Canton, Ohio where Doug made lifelong friends and enjoyed his childhood with his two brothers, Don, Jr. and Dave. Many hours were spent in their garden, raising sheep for 4H, and playing in the marching band. After graduating from Ohio State University as a Metallurgical Engineer, he was recruited by Convair Space Systems division of General Dynamics in San Diego where he lived since 1980 and worked on the Atlas Centaur. Doug received his MBA from University of Phoenix. His 38-year career as an Engineer took him from General Dynamics to Ametek, Ketema, Naval Rework Facility in Coronado, Never Compromise, Taylor Made and finally, Northrop Grumman. He built rocket ships, made putters and kept drones flying. He took pride in his work yet never bragged about it.He met his wife of 32 years, Babette (Betty) Iris King nee Arnold in 1985 at Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach, San Diego where they were later married in 1986. The late 80’s & 90’s found Doug raising three daughters: Stacey, Stephanie and Sally and being involved in every aspect of their life.Doug will be forever remembered for his deep faith in God, his humble & hard-working nature, his dry wit, his love of music, his desire to serve the Lord at work, home & church, as well as his deep love for his wife and daughters. His free time was spent playing Baritone in a Brass Band, watching OSU Football games, taking care of his mother-in-law Carmen, working OT as well as volunteering at church.Doug is survived by his father and mother–Donald & Sally King, wife – Betty, daughter – Stacey Parker (Harrison), daughters – Stephanie & Sally. Older brother – Donald King, Jr., (Kathleen), younger brother – David King, (Susan), nieces – Katie Morgan (nee King) & Sarah Decelle (nee King), and Emily King, only nephew, Patrick King, his Godmother Madonna Bury, and his faithful and loving bulldog companion, Rex.The King family invites you, his friends and family, to share in the Celebration of Doug’s Life.
