Doyle Al KutchDecember 25, 1938 – March 14, 2014Many in the operatic world in Southern California are mourning the recent loss of Doyle Al Kutch, who has joined the Heavenly Choir; probably not as a singer, but certainly as a SUPERnumerary.Through his father, Doyle was a member of the Shoshone/Bannock Tribe of Fort Hall, Idaho, where Doyle was born. His father Al Whipple Kutch and his mother Fern Virginia Ferrin had three children. Doyle was preceded in death by a younger brother, David Eugene Kutch. He was survived by his sister, Cheryl Patricia Beatty, her husband William H. Beatty, three cherished Beatty nephews, Michael Glen, Brian Scott, and Dale Russell; niece, Marilyn Bighorse Reed; 17 great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.Always affiliated with L.D.S., Doyle received a B.A. in Business Administration from Brigham Young University, and he specialized in education management for over 25 years. Following a stint in the United States Army (Ft. Lewis, Washington), Doyle was employed by the L.A. Commmunity College District and subsequently by the Secondary and Elementary Teachers Organization (SETO).Doyle never knew the meaning of the word “No.”His music-related accomplishments include actively supporting and participating in the Opera Guild of Southern California (President), Metropolitan Opera National Council Western Region) Board and Opera showcase of the Desert), L.A. Friends of San Diego Opera (Co-chairman), USC Friends of Music, The Loren L. Zachary Society, Opera Buff and Opera Associates.As a resident of Los Angeles County since 1964, his activities include the Casa Adobe de San Rafael (Primary Docent and officer), Arbor Day participant, Glendale Beautiful (President), Glendale Rose Float Association and the Glendale Historical Society’s Doctor’s House.His other organizations include the Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society (Officer, Trustee and Advisory Board) and the California Association for Childhood Education. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 pm at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale, California 91202. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doyle’s name to a musical organization of your choice.”…It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God took you home…”
