Earl Lee Harshberger's Obituary
Earl Harshberger, was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose infectious smile, selfless generosity and wicked sense of humor was loved by all who knew him.He was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Navy for nearly 24 years, including both the Korean War and the Vietnam war. He first enlisted at his hometown of Torrington, Wyoming in 1946. Mr. Harshberger attended Navy Boot Camp at NTC San Diego and was stationed at commands in such places as: Treasure Island, CA; Guam, US Territory; and Mare Island, CA. His shipboard assignments included: USS Oberon, AK-14; USS Laertes, AR-20; USS Piedmont, AD-17; USS Wedderburn, DD-684; and USS Sperry, AS-12. His ratings held were: SR, SA, SN, ME (Metalsmith)-3rd class, ME-2nd class, SFM (Shipfitter Metalsmith)-2nd class, and SF (Shipfitter)-1st class. He was awarded numerous medals and other awards, such as: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; National Defense, with Bronze Star; Good Conduct, with sixth award; China Service; World War II Victory Medal; and a Letter of Commendation from Commanding Officer, USS Sperry, AS-12. On November 13, 1970, Mr. Harshberger was released from Active Duty, with an Honorable Discharge.He is survived by one sister, Gladys Tucker; three brothers, Martin Harshberger, Charles Harshberger and Delbert Harshberger; his daughter, Connie Sterling; his son Earl Harshberger, Jr; five grandchildren, Jared Miller, Erin Miller, Mathew Wiseman, Taylor Wiseman and Corey Wiseman; and one great-grandson, Danny.
