Edward Baterina Ferrer's Obituary
Edward “Steve” Ferrer was born on September 11th, 1973 in Quezon City, Philippines as the youngest son of Benjamin and Norma Ferrer. Early on, he developed a strong love for the game of basketball, a love that would persist over the course of his lifetime. At age 13, Steve and his family immigrated to the United States. Upon arrival, his relatives brought them to their home in National City. A basketball hoop in their backyard quickly caught Steve’s attention and he bolted towards the goal, running straight through the glass door. This overwhelming excitement resulted in a trip to the emergency room, plenty of stitches, and a permanent scar on his knee. Steve resided in San Diego from that day on, growing up in National City where he would develop many life-long friendships. Several years after moving to the States, Steve met his first wife and was blessed with his eldest daughter, Camryn Rose Ferrer. Together, they enjoyed renting RedBox movies, eating Jack in the Box tacos, getting slurpees, and singing along to his favorite Filipino songs. Steve would pass on his love for basketball to his daughter, as well as his nephews. They would spend many days and nights in their backyard, shooting hoops and playing basketball games. In 2009, Steve would be blessed with another baby girl, Eder Cabrean Ferrer. When he would visit the Philippines, they would spend quality time together by shopping at the mall and eating good food. Steve and Eder also spent many hours on video call, when Steve would return to the States. Despite the distance, he would always make an effort to be there for his youngest. Even after being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, Steve always made an effort to continue living an amazing life. He loved to help his family and friends with any handiwork, ranging from house cleanings to home interior paint jobs. He attended concerts, tried new foods with his eldest daughter, and even had two surprise birthday parties with some of his closest loved ones. Steve put up a great fight against a very aggressive sickness, which ultimately took his life on August 12th, 2022. While his loved ones are devastated by his passing, they are comforted with the idea that he is no longer suffering. He will forever be in our minds and our hearts.
