Eleanor Roberts' Obituary
Eleanor (Marra) Roberts enjoyed 95 mostly wonderful years, of San Diego transitioned Friday 12/21/2018 at 12:10 am. With her hands held by Branden & Maria Hartwell she passed in peace. She had been surrounded by her family in an out pouring of love, memories and gratitude for days prior. Though she had suffered the frustration of dementia and fragility of congestive heart disease she never forgot the ones she loved. Born to Eleanora Sclafani & Francesco Marra in Brooklyn, NY 8/19/23. Eleanor was the last of the 7 siblings; John, Vincent, Marie, Rose, Anthony & Norma. She fell in love on the Coney Island board walk with a young handsome sailor, Frank Marion Roberts & married in 5/12/1943. 2/6/1944 brought their first child Franchon Eleanor Roberts later to become Frankie Hartwell. As the wife of a Naval Officer, Eleanor learned to pack up quickly for the next move. Living on the island of Guam the second child, Marcia Marian Roberts (Marcy) was delivered 11/6/1949 during one of the many hurricanes that tropical life endures. As a youth Eleanor or Lil as she was known by family & friends worked as an ice cream taster, a seamstress & managed the books at Marra Brothers auto shop. After 31 years of marriage Eleanor became a widow at 50 and traveled extensively with friends and sisters. She loved to golf and was so excited to win best score among the ladies with such prizes as a box of tissues. Eleanor did volunteer work at Grossmont Hospital for 20 yrs & for as many years was a Mall Walker making close friendships. She was very inspired with the messages of the Sunday services at Christ Church Unity. Most of all Eleanor loved her family and showed it in the generosity of her actions. She emphasized the importance of family, living a fragile life, moderation in all and the need to cheat just a little bit if you want to get anywhere (fake it ‘til you make it). Eleanor is survived by daughters; Frankie Hartwell and Marcy Roberts, grandchildren Denise Naylor, Aaron Laythe Hartwell & wife MaryAnn, Corlan Hartwell & wife Jodi, Branden Hartwell & wife Maria, Jody Reyes and husband Jose’, Michael Caldwell and wife Mandy, 19 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Services for our Grand Lady will be Friday 1:00 pm January 4th 2019 at Greenwood Mortuary in the Salli Lynn Chapel (date & time to be confirmed).
