Elizabeth Grant Holman's Obituary
On Wednesday January 29, 2020 Elizabeth “Betty” Grant Holman peacefully passed away at the age of 88. She was born in Hoboken, NJ on March 2, 1931 as the only child of Alexander and Helen Grant. Betty was raised in Hoboken and in 1949 graduated from Union Hill High School where she was Homeroom Treasurer, in the French Club and on the Homecoming Committee. After high school she wanted to attend nursing school, but her parents simply couldn’t afford to send her. Instead, she worked full time as a secretary for James Talcott Incorporated in NYC until the birth of her first child in 1958. Betty met the love of her life, Thomas Holman, at the age of 12 when they both vacationed at the New Jersey Shore. They ended up dating for 13 years and only ever dated each other. They eventually married on February 23, 1957 and moved to New Shrewsbury, NJ where they started their family. In 1964, after having their fourth child, they moved to California where they had four more children. In California, Betty predominantly raised their children and supported Tom as he climbed up the corporate ladder. Betty especially enjoyed their annual family trips to Disneyland and Universal Studios, fun times at the beach or park and reading her romance novels. When Betty wasn’t caring for her brood of 8 she watched every single ice skating and gymnastics competition she could find on television. She absolutely loved watching both the winter and summer Olympics. So much so, that she wouldn’t walk into a room with a TV on or allow anyone to turn on her car radio during the games, for fear she might hear who won before an event actually aired. Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, her parents and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Anne Idomoto, her husband Masataka and children Amanda and Thomas, son Thomas Joseph Holman, Jr. and his wife Pam, son William Alexander Holman, his wife Shawn and children Collin, Zachary and Kellsie, daughter Elizabeth Holman Hill, her husband John and children Joshua and Andrew, son Douglas Steven Holman, his wife Kim and children Emily and Grant, son Robert James Holman, his wife Rosemary and children Matthew, Joshua and Molly, son Christopher Andrew Holman and his wife Heather, and son Michael Grant Holman. Rest In Peace Mom...We will love you forever!
