Elizabeth Quinones' Obituary
ORBITUARY RE: ELIZABETH QUINONES
Elizabeth “Liz” Quinones, age 93, passed away at home in her sleep Saturday evening, 11/23/2024, with members of her family by her side.
Elizabeth was born November 8, 1931, in Ozona, Texas, to Isabel and Phillip Fuentes. She was the eldest of three siblings, Enedina “Nini,” Rudolfo “Rudy” and Linda. Liz is survived by her remaining sister, Linda.
As a child, her family moved to San Diego, California where she graduated from San Diego High School, class of 1949. They had a very large student class, and she was one of the four captains of the San Diego High school drill team.
Liz was actively involved in her church, where she met her husband, Julian Quinones, II. They married February 24, 1950, and shared a beautiful 45-year marriage until his passing in 1995. Together, they had three children: Julian, III “Steve,” Andrew “Andy,” and Cynthia “Cindy.” Liz later became a Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother. She is very dearly loved by her family.
In 1989, Liz began teaching at Emory Elementary School, San Diego, CA, where she was honored in 1989 as Employee of the Year. She was always a teacher beginning with her children, her many grandchildren, and also teaching Sunday school in her church. Her passion for teaching inspired other teachers and school staff, and they appreciated her for her abilities and kindness. Liz retired in 1992 dedicating her time to continue to inspire her many grandchildren.
Liz was a great cook, seamstress, and loved to crochet. In addition, she had a great love of all types of music, whereby she sang in her church choir, and also enjoyed songs from Eydie Gorme’, Country, Gospel, and Vicente Fernandez.
Liz was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, counselor and loyal friend. Her legacy will continue on through all the lives she touched, and she will be sorely missed. We invite you to join us in her Celebration of Life Service as follows:
