The service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary located at 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113 in the Salli Lynn Chapel.Enriqueta Josefa Figari Muller, known to all of us as “Pepita,” was born in Lima, Peru where she met and married her physician husband of 19 years, Justo Amador Caballero. They had 4 children together: Justo Amador Pablo, Jose Armando, Rosa Josefa, and Adela Susana. Her husband, Justo, passed away in 1957 at the age of 60 which left Pepita to raise their 4 teenage children. She was able to accomplish this with a sweet grace, strength, and love. In 1993, she lost her eldest son, Justo Amador Pablo. He was 54. In 1995, she lost her grandson, Jose Armando II “Dito.” He was 25.Pepita came to live permanently in the US in 1982 before becoming an American citizen in the year 2000. Here, she doted on her extended family which grew to include 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her beloved sister, Mary, and Mary’s husband, Carlos Porturas. Carlos passed away in June 2014 and Mary in August 2014.Pepita enjoyed crocheting and knitting gifts for her children and grandchildren, and loved traveling as a tourist between Lima and the United States, visiting countries in between, such as Puerto Rico, Panama, and Mexico. Over the years, she became a devoted gardener who supplied the family with fruit plants like banana trees and others that she had grown from seeds (figs, cherimoyas, lemons, avocados, papayas, Peruvian chiles, and various herbs). The light shoveling was done by her brother-in-law, Carlos, who was her right arm and planting advisor, while the heavy shoveling was always reserved for her strong grandson, Earl.Pepita will long be remembered for her beautiful smile, her musical laugh, and her sweet kindness to everyone around her. Her grandchildren, especially, will forever treasure her ability to have a unique, special, and unbreakable bond with each and every one of them. Her children will always cherish and miss the daily phone conversations and unforgettable memories that they shared. Through these memories, and the nicknames that she gave all of her children and grandchildren, her memory will live on. Pepita will be missed dearly. Interestingly enough, Pepita and her husband, Justo, both passed away on the 21st day of the month. Upon her request, Pepita’s husband’s remains were brought to the United States and now, after 57 years of being a widow, Pepita and Justo will be reunited for eternity.
