In Loving Memory of Ernest Kemp (Gene).
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest Eugene Kemp, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Gene departed this world on October 14, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Gene was born on August 8, 1932, in Teaneck, New Jersey, the son of Archie Reed Kemp and Ruby Rhea Stokesbary. He lived a life full of purpose, compassion, and a strong sense of community. Gene dedicated his life to service both as a devoted family man and as a respected member of the Coronado Community. In his spare time, he spent his days doing what he loved best, out on the greens with his friends and wife sharing his passion for golf.
Gene’s greatest joy was his family. Preceding his death was his loving wife Ethelyn Weet Kemp married of 62 years and their daughter Kelly Ann Kemp. He is survived by his loving granddaughters Alexandria (Eric) Gorrow-Barker, Elizabeth (Jonathon) Sorley, and Erica Gorrow, and his cherished great-grandchildren Morgan Gorrow, Cory Baker, Collin Harris, Jaxson Sorley, Payton Barker, Mila Sorley, Ethan Adam Barker. He instilled in them the values of kindness, empathy, and a strong work ethic that will live on for generations.
Gene was a graduate of the University of California in 1954 with a degree in Business Administration. He spent 21 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator and Manager of Sophisticated Weapon and Electronic Systems Budget of Personnel Resources. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Commander in 1975. Gene then went to work for Cubic Corporation as a Senior Staff Engineer in the Marketing Department, retiring from Cubic after a very successful career.
Throughout his life, Gene was known for his unwavering commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous of San Diego and the Coronado Response Group. He touched the lives of many through the groups that he was active in. His selflessness and dedication were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Gene will be remembered for his infectious smile, warm heart, and ever-present sense of humor that brightened even the darkest of days. He was a friend to all, offering a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone in need.
Gene’s memory will forever live in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire us all. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made the world a better place.
