It is with great sadness for us to report the passing of our beloved and devoted mother, sister, sister n law and aunt Fa’atupu E. Hunter. Fa’atupu was 76 years old when she passed and was called home to be with our Lord & Savior on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at Scripps Memorial hospital La Jolla in San Diego, CA.
Fa’atupu was born in the village of Fagasā in the U.S. territory of American Samoa on December 13, 1948, as Fa’atupu Samuela. Fa’atupu, known to her close family and friends simply as “Tupu”, migrated with her family to San Diego, CA in the early 1960’s. Tupu attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Southeast San Diego and graduated with her high school diploma in 1968.
Tupu attended Coleman Career College where she received certification in Data Entry. She worked for a short time for San Diego County in the 1980’s but would dedicate over 23 years of work service at Construction Notice Services located in Mira Mesa where she retired in 2020.
On August 25, 1979, Tupu married the love of her life, Elisara Hunter Koria at the First Samoan Congregational Christian Church on 45th Street in South Crest. Together they were blessed and welcomed their one and only child, a son, in 1984. They both served as members and deacons at the First Samoan Congregational Christian Church for many years but later transitioned and began attending the Mt. Zion Samoan Mission Congregation Church at the Normal Heights United Methodist Church during their later years in life. In 2020, Tupu would bid a sweet farewell to her husband Elisara when he passed due to health complications.
A funeral viewing and service and internment will be held for Tupu on Tuesday, February 4th at Greenwood Memorial Park & Cemetery. Tupu is survived by her only son, Raymond, her siblings, Moana, Tolai & Sam and countless other nieces and nephews she loved, supported and raised as her own children. She will be dearly missed and always remembered for her kindness, humor, and generosity.
