Florence (Flo, Floss) Woods, 93, beloved wife (widowed), mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt died peacefully in her sleep on July 31 in El Cajon.Flo was born in Geneva, N.Y. on June 15, 1923 to Floyd and Mary Updike. She married Francis (Fran) Woods in 1946 at age 23. They moved to the San Diego area in 1950 when he was transferred with the Navy.They lived in Lakeside for over 40 years where Flo worked as a teller at Security National Bank for many years. In retirement, she was involved in the Lakeside Historical Society and one her most passionate projects was helping get a flood channel built in Lakeside after their home was damaged in a flood. She and Fran enjoyed taking trips in their motor home and spending time with family, especially their grandchildren.Fran predeceased Flo in 2004, and she missed him every day. Flo is survived by son and daughter-in-law John and Jeanine Woods, grandchildren Amy (Grant) Appleby and Scott Woods, great-granddaughter Lily Appleby, brothers Bernie (Rosemary) Updike of Poway, and Donnie (Kay) Updike of Fairport, N.Y., sisters Peg Thompson, Sandy Prete, and Doris Hendricks, all of Geneva, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
