Frances Helen Nicolosi's Obituary
Mrs. Frances Helen Nicolosi (Bega), age 90, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in
Livermore, California. Born on June 16, 1934, in Prado, California, Helen lived a full and
generous life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith.
Helen’s early years were rooted in the values of hard work and perseverance. As a farm worker,
she was required to drop out of school and work in the fields. During that time she learned the
value and meaning of hard work. One of the proudest moments of her life came when she
returned to school later in life to complete her high school diploma—a milestone that brought
immense pride to her family and stood as a testament to her determination and lifelong
commitment to personal growth.
Her professional life was spent in retail, where she built a career defined by dedication and
consistency. She began working at Lerners in Chula Vista, California during the 1950s. On April
26th, 1959 she married Augustine S Nicolosi, “Nick”. In 1969, after relocating with her family to
Livermore, she joined JC Penney at the 3rd Street store. There she worked for an impressive
22 years before retiring in the early 1990s. Her time at JC Penney was more than just a job—it
was a place where she formed lasting friendships and became a familiar face to many in the
community.
Helen’s heart was always open to others. A thoughtful and spirited woman, she had a deep
compassion for those in need and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Many within her
extended family were touched by her generosity over the years—whether through acts of
kindness or simply being there when needed most.
A devoted parishioner of Saint Michael’s Church in Livermore, Helen found great joy and
spiritual fulfillment in attending Sunday Mass. Her faith was an integral part of her life and
guided much of how she treated others—with kindness, humility, and grace.
One of Helen’s most cherished traditions was creating handmade Christmas stockings for her
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and any family member she could bring
joy to during the holidays. These lovingly crafted gifts became treasured symbols of her
warmth and giving spirit. In her later years, her and Cindy were constant companions. A
cherished memory for Cindy are the concerts that her and mom attended over the years.
Helen is survived by her son Ron Nicolosi “Ronnie”; daughter Cynthia Nicolosi “Cindy”; niece
Lillian Jejjoni whom Helen considered a daughter; daughter-in-law April Nicolosi; grandchildren
Andrea Cotton and Robbie Nicolosi; sisters Irene Garcia, Edna “Lani” Luna; brother-in-law
Alfonso Silva—her beloved “Compa”; seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces
and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Augustine “Nick” Nicolosi; mother Sally
Russell; father Raymond Bega; her sister Alicia Silva “Babe”; nephews Evaristo “Ed” Garcia III
and Robert Reyes “Bobby”; her grandparents; and other family members.
Helen’s legacy is one of love, resilience, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her memory will
continue to live on through the lives she touched so deeply.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
