Franklin Lee Tims' Obituary
Franklin Lee, the oldest of two children, was born on February 27, 1930 in San Diego, CA to proud parents Mr. Leola and Ms. Josephine Tims. He was raised and educated in San Diego County graduating from Grossmont High School. Immediately following graduation, Franklin joined the United States Marine Corps and accomplished something a very few did at that time; rose from the rank of private to the top enlisted rank attainable and then was commissioned as an officer and promoted to the rank of Captain, retiring after thirty years. At Miramar National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 24, at one-thirty in the afternoon, special honors are being presented by the United States Marine Corps on behalf of the President of the United States in recognition of those thirty years.Franklin was a man who knew the value of family and married his lovely wife Mary whom he cherished for fifty-nine years until she passed away quietly on January 1, 2012. The couple nurtured three children; Franklin Jr., Phillip and Marily. He was exceptionally proud of five grandchildren: Franklin Lee Tims III, Joshua James Tims, Mary Jean Tims, Shelby Parker Tims and Jordan L. Edwards. He was very proud of his great grandchildren too.A post retirement highlight in this Marine’s life was returning to school for acquisition of a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from San Diego State University.Dad, Father-in-law, Grandpa, Friend, Mentor, Companion, Support Guy and Marine;God saw that you were getting tiredand a cure was not to be.So He put His arms around youand whispered, “Come with Me.”With tearful eyes we watched you sufferand saw your life fade away.Although we love you dearly,We know we could not make you stay.A golden heart stopped beating;Hard working hands to rest.God broke our hearts to prove to us,He only takes the best.
