Gabriel Ozier's Obituary
Gabriel (Mickey) Ozier was born September 2, 1951 in Ft. Bragg, NC. to Rayfield Sr. and Ann Ozier who both preceded him in death. As a young child Mickey and his family moved to Joliet, IL. where he was raised in a loving home with lots of siblings. Mickey was the sixth born of seven children: Brothers - Rayfield Ozier Jr., Jerome Ozier (deceased), Bobby Ozier Sr., Billy Ray Ozier Sr. (deceased), Mark Ozier and his only sister Delores (Ozier) McNeely.
Mickey attended McKinley Park Elementary School, Joliet Township West Campus High School, San Diego Community College and Arizona Western College.
Mickey, also known as “Sergeant Rock”, began his Twenty-One year career in the United States Army in 1972 where he served as an exemplary Soldier until he retired in 1993.
Mickey received the following Decoration/ Medals/ Badges/ Citations/ Ribbons: National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Non-Commission Officer, Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good-Conduct Medal, Recruiter Badge, Marksman Qualification Badge, .45 Caliber Pistol, Marksman Qualification Badge 14-16 Rifle and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Special Army Accommodation’s: Attended Jump School, First Sergeant – E8 Rank, Number One Recruiter in the Nation, He Recruited Nurses from Universities around the Nation, Guidance Counselor, and Military Police.
Throughout his career Mickey lived in Yuma, AZ, St Louis, MO; Los Angeles, CA., Louisville, KY; and after retiring he made San Diego, CA. his home.
Mickey married his childhood sweetheart Sandra Starling Johnson, and later in life married Julia (Jay) Jones.
Mickey accepted Christ as a young man, and was a devoted member and Deacon of New Life Baptist Church San Diego under the leadership of Pastor Troy Owens. Mickey went home to be with His Lord on March 3, 2021.
Mickey leaves to cherish precious memories; his Brothers Rayfield Ozier Jr. (wife Lee Etta-Deceased), Jerome Ozier (wife Essie) (Both Deceased), Bobby Ozier Sr. (wife Geneva), Billy Ray Ozier Sr. (Deceased) (wife Vivian), Mark Ozier (wife Lennita), Alabama Brother William Ozier (wife Orbuty) and Sister Delores (Ozier) McNeely (husband Bob-Deceased). Nieces and Nephews; Keith, Leif, Lance, Monica, Annette, Chandra, Donald, Nina, Angela (Deceased), Kimberly, Bobby Jr., Jeneice, Billy Jr, Corleius, Jeffrey, Janine, Denise, Demetria (Deceased) Serrenda (Deceased), Shalawn, Kevin, Keith, Kiara, Sergio, Makiesha, Tanosha, Tevin; God-Daughter- Tianya Roldan, Stepdaughter T. Lyn Moore, special friend Lynn Thompson and a host of family and friends.
Mickey was Generous, Kind, Loving, Smart, Charming, Charismatic and Fun- loving.
Mickey starred in the movie “Private Benjamin” with Goldie Hawn. He will be remembered for his love of 60’s and 70’s Old School music, Visiting Casinos and driving his Corvettes. Mickey’s memory will forever live in our hearts.
