Genoveva Gonzalez's Obituary
Guadalupe, Juan Manuel y Luis Antonio.
A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Genoveva “Mama Veva” Gonzalez passed away peacefully at Sharp Chula Vista Hospital at the age of 102 years old on June 9, 2023.
Mama Veva was born in 1921 in the town of Zamora Michoacan where she was raised until her early 20’s. In the mid 1940’s, she relocated to Tijuana, Baja California, and eventually settled in San Diego.
Mama Veva was wonderfully devoted to her 7 children: Esperanza, Cecilia, Concepcion, Carolina, Maria
Guadalupe, Juan Manuel and Luis Antonio.
She was a loving grandmother to her 23 grandchildren; Zorayda, Horacio, Judith, Alejandra, Maricela, Karina, Gilberto, Omar, Miguel, Jorge, Manuel, Armando, Octavio, Evelyn, Leila, Christina, Denise, Antonio
Esperanza, Alberto, Manny, Andres, and Ricardo. She was a wonderful great-grandmother to 27 great-grandchildren; Galina, Vanessa, Benjamin, Paola, Sophia, Genesis, Caydon, Gavin, Elias, Daniela, Mateo, Juliana, Thiago, Mason, Renata, Jacqueline, Edward, Emyleth, Logan, Olivia, Mateo, Emiliano, Joseph, Romina, Gianni, Jacob and Santiago. She delighted in being able to spend time outdoors doing what she cherished the most: appreciating flowers and tending to her garden. She had a talent for gardening and was passionate about it. Planting every variety of fruit she enjoyed eating became her mission. She created a tradition of growing nopales and preparing them to eat and share at family parties. She lived a full life because of the many trips she enjoyed taking with her friends in her prime. Columbia, New York City, Miami (where she saw her hero Don Francisco), Hawaii, and many different cities in Mexico were just a few of the places she visited and explored. Veva was the life of any party. She had a sweet and sour personality, and you could usually find her with a tall can of her favorite icy cold beer, Tecate. She was known to boast that her secret to long life is a daily can of beer (or a shot of tequila). She was a massive dog enthusiast who never held back on spoiling, overfeeding, and snuggling other people's dogs. She played favorites, but that was okay, because they weren't hers. It's safe to say that Mama Veva was a devout Catholic. She cherished the Virgin Mary with admiration and had a strong connection to her. She was a powerful, self-reliant, and independent woman even to her very last breath.
We will miss her every day.
