George A. Tacoma's Obituary
George Albert Tacoma, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, left us peacefully on December 8, 2021, to be with our Lord. George passed away at his beloved home that he built in 1956. George was devoted to his wife May, who preceded him in death on September 2, 2010. George loved his family and enjoyed traveling to see both his extended family and friends in his motorhome with May.
After his childhood growing up in his birthplace of Chicago, Illinois, George would proudly go on to serve his country in World War II. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 after his family had moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Corporal Tacoma served in the 4th Marine Division and was in the battles at Tinian, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. In the 1980s, George became aware of reunions of the 4th Marine Division and so enjoyed rejoining his buddies. He and May would either fly, or more often travel in their motorhome, to the reunions. George owned Plane and Fancy, a successful, fine cabinet making business in El Cajon for over 30 years.
The four Tacoma children: Todd Tacoma, April Bowman (Gary), June Brown (Myron), and Scott Tacoma, and six grandchildren: Katie Leonard (Ed); Travis Brown (Tara); Joel Bowman (Melissa); Robyn Gorrell (Jacob); Zachary Bowman; Emily Do (Bryan) and nine great-grandchildren loved him so much and he will be greatly missed.
George was also preceded in death by his firstborn son, Craig Tacoma, on September 1, 1987.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of May Tacoma.
