Georgette Therese Picard's Obituary
Georgette Therese Picard, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2015. Born on October 13, 1924 in Auburn, Maine, she was the 11th of 12 children of Joseph and Marie Louise Renaud. After graduation from Lewiston High School in 1944, she worked as a payroll clerk in Lewiston. She caught the eye of her future husband, Joseph Maurice Picard, as she passed by on her way to work. He proposed by telling her that he was going to move to California, and would she like to come with him? They were married on May 10, 1952, and began their married life by driving across the country to build a home in San Diego. Georgette and Joe lived in the same house on Zena Drive for over 57 years, where she was an excellent and generous homemaker, seamstress, and cook for her family and friends. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for several decades. Georgette found her joy in serving others, always wanting to reach out to help or to share her talents, whether it was surprising a grandchild with a new homemade outfit, or having fresh baked brownies on hand for visitors. She also took great pleasure in gardening and spent many hours tending the fruit trees and ornamentals in her yard. Georgette was an avid walker and hiker. She and Joe could be seen daily on their walks around Chollas Lake, and weekly on their hikes in the mountains with their many friends. She was very fit well into her later years, walking almost up until the day she died. Georgette and Joe traveled frequently throughout their 63-year marriage, from day trips to cruises to a train trip across Canada. Georgette is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joe, her five children and their spouses: Michael (Elizabeth) of Plano, Texas; James (Tracy) of Carlsbad; Marie (Dan Purgiel) of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Robert (Stephanie) of Rose Hill, Kansas; and Thomas (Tracy) of Oceanside, as well as 14 grandchildren and their spouses and one great-grandson. All will miss her greatly and cherish the memories of her warm smile and loving hospitality. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2725 55th Street, San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
