Georgia Goff Howell's Obituary
Georgia Goff Howell, 87, of El Cajon, California passed away on September 21, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Georgia was born on February 22, 1936, to Floyd and Lonis Goff in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas. She grew up on a farm in Clover Bend, Arkansas and moved to San Diego, California, following her graduation from business college in 1956.
She married her high school sweetheart, Don Buchanan, in 1957 and they had one child together, Julie, to whom she was selflessly devoted. Don and Georgia’s marriage ended in 1973 and Georgia was remarried at the young age of 75 to Jack Leroy Howell in 2011. They spent the last years of her life together traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Georgia retired from San Diego State University to take care of her mother who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. All told, she worked off and on at San Diego State University for nearly 50 years. She made many friendships there that lasted throughout her life.
Georgia will always be remembered for her love for her family and her service to those in need. Her love for others was borne out of her love for Christ, whom she followed faithfully her entire life, through all of life’s joys and disappointments. It was in those disappointments that her faith was tested and found to be strong to the end.
Georgia was predeceased by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband, Jack, her brother, Leon (Alma) Goff, her daughter Julie (John) McConnaughy, her grandchildren Cory (Lindi) McConnaughy, Megan (Jeremy) Price, Sean (Emily) McConnaughy. She has one great-grandchild, Jeremiah Price. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew and many, many cousins.
