Mr. Gerald Francis Chandler's Obituary
Gerald F. Chandler, 92 of La Mesa, California passed away on Tuesday, April 10th.
Jerry, as he was known to friends and family, was born in Salmon, Idaho on April 19,1930. He attended and graduated Salmon High School, where he played both basketball and football, and met his wife, Gwen Jenkins. After high school, Jerry joined the United States Navy.Jerry and Gwen were married in May of 1951. During his Navy career, Jerry was stationed in both San Francisco and San Diego.
After the Navy, Jerry began his college career at the Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He then transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow (ID) where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduation, Jerry and Gwen returned to San Diego where Jerry worked in the private sector for the military. He worked for Cohu, N.E.L.C., and N.O.S.C., where he retired in 1994 as the head of the Afloat Systems Division.
After retirement, Jerry and Gwen enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling, including a road trip up the Al-Can highway to Alaska.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Elsa Chandler, brother Tom and sister Luanne, and his loving wife Gwen.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Lois, sons David, Rick, and John, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, and Jerry will then return to Salmon to be joined with Gwen for eternity.
