Gilbert Lee Johnson's Obituary
Gilbert Lee Johnson “G-Joe”
January 24, 1976 – November 25th, 2020
Gilbert Lee Johnson, “G-Joe”, beloved father, son, brother, and friend left this earth tragically and unexpectedly on November 25th, 2020 at the age of 44. He was Born on January 24th, 1976 in Chula Vista, California to Martha and Gilbert Johnson. He acquired the name “G-Joe” after his toddler sister failed to pronounce “Junior.” She uttered the name G-Joe and that has been his name ever since. G-Joe spent most of his childhood and adult life in the city of San Diego and the city of Chula Vista. He achieved his GED in 1994. He unofficially adopted a son, Seandell Jones after his marriage to Shearese Whitaker-Johnson with whom he later fathered a daughter, Vanessa Johnson. He fathered a second daughter, Saraviah Johnson with Natalie Dockery. In 2006 he earned a Certificate of Completion in Bible Studies. Following his interest in repairing automobiles, he earned multiple variations of Certificates of Completion in Automotive Engine Service and Repair from 2006-2013. He had a thirst for knowledge and attended local community colleges completing several units in general studies. G-Joe worked small jobs building fences, landscaping, and pouring concrete for friends, neighbors, and family. Some jobs were for pay and countless jobs were done out of the kindness of his heart. Between working on cars and tending to plants and landscaping, he read his bible and socialized with many members of the community.
Many who knew G-Joe would say, “He had a kind heart.” He loved to talk. Some would say he would have been a great pastor or lawyer. He only owned what was necessary and essential. Everything had a place. He was tidy, vacuumed daily, and made his bed. He kept his body in great physical shape lifting weights and visiting his physician frequently. His health and body were of great importance as was his mind and soul. He was a mama’s boy. His friends were nothing less than family to him. He spent a lot of time visiting his neighbors and friends. He often talked about advising foster youths. He wanted to steer them on the right path. He would give to the homeless every year on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He would seek speaking with the elderly because he said they were full of knowledge and enjoyed the company of children because of their innocence. He was loyal and protective of those he held dear to his heart. He would not believe a thing you said without first doing his own thorough research. YouTube was his favorite source for answers. He loved dogs and was looking forward to owning one for himself. He leaves this world full of people yearning for more time with him.
