Glenda Blanche Askew's Obituary
Glenda Blanche Lowden was born on August 30, 1933 in Wonder, Oregon near Grants Pass, to Glen and Mae Lowden. In childhood, she lived in a small rural farmhouse outside of Grants Pass that was built by her father. When she was young, she was involved in the 4H Club at her school where she learned horticulture. It was in Grants Pass where Glenda met her husband Albert Frank Askew Jr. who she married after graduating from high school and then moved to San Diego where her husband Albert joined the Navy. After five years in the Navy, San Diego became their permanent home where they raised a family of one girl and two boys. Glenda worked for several years at the phone company while also maintaining a home. Glenda was known by her children and friends as a kind and thoughtful woman with a good sense of humor. She enjoyed reading and spending time with the family at home, cooking meals and chatting about the latest family events, watching baseball and looking after her flowers in the garden. Blanche and Al loved to travel. Their travels took them several times to Hawaii, and to Mexico and Fiji. They enjoyed going to family reunions and back to Oregon frequently to visit her family. In May 2019, Glenda and Albert celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary just before Albert passed away in July 2019. She is survived by their 3 children - Beverly Pelletier, Dave Askew and Dale Askew along with 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Glenda passed away on December 31, 2022 of complications from Lymphoma which she was diagnosed with and bravely fought for nearly 30 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. At age 89 when she passed, Glenda would have been 90 years old in August 2023. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, taking care of business, and the love of her family.
