Gloria Silvia Santos' Obituary
Gloria Silvia Iñiguez Gomez was born on October 6, 1943 in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico to Aristeo Iñiguez and Esther Gomez. She was the second oldest of eight children. She is survived by five of her siblings; all continue to reside in Mexico. She met Carlos Santos at a party in Tijuana, while on vacation with her grandmother. He was supposed to meet another girl there but was smitten by Gloria. When she returned to Guadalajara, he wrote her a daily love letter that included a cartoon drawing. Eventually, he went to Guadalajara to ask her father for her hand in marriage. On October 5, 1962, at the age of 19, she married Carlos in the Catholic church. She then moved to San Diego with Carlos. They had four children: Gloria Elizabeth, Carlos Enrique, Roberto, and Susana. Carlos Enrique passed away suddenly at the age of 15 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. She was a devoted and loving stay at home wife and mother. She has 7 grandchildren: Jessica Longhurst, Brittany Carpenter, Brianna Cowley, Madison Romero, Spencer Edwards, Benson Edwards, and Hunter Edwards. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren: Carter Longhurst, Christian Longhurst, Clara Longhurst, Lily Cowley, and Ollie Cowley.
She was later baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout the remainder of her life, she served in the church very faithfully. Most of her life was spent serving in the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations (multiple times as president). She also enjoyed her time working with the scouts and as a temple worker in the San Diego Temple.
Gloria was a very talented and creative woman. While in Mexico, she studied to be a fashion designer. She later studied cake decorating, which is what she worked in most throughout her life. She then went to Southwestern College to study floral design. She was an excellent cook and baker. Some of her other hobbies included crocheting, quilting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and stamping.
Once she was an empty nester, she went to work as a cake decorator for Baskin and Robbins. Then she went to work as a cake decorating instructor for Wilton in Michaels Chula Vista and El Cajon.
We feel so blessed to have had such an amazing mother. She has taught us the importance of centering our life around Jesus Christ and his teachings. She taught us that our family comes first, to work hard, and the importance of education. We are who we are because of her. She will be very missed!
