Gonzalo Garcia Ramos passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a respected member of his community.
Gonzalo was born in El Grullo, Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Santos and Silvina Garcia. He was the middle child among four sisters and four brothers, growing up in a large family where he learned from an early age the values of hard work, family unity, and responsibility.
His life began in El Grullo before he later moved to Ensenada, Baja California, as a young man. It was there that he met the love of his life, Maria Rosario Garcia, and together they married and began building the family he cherished so deeply.
In search of greater opportunities, Gonzalo made the courageous decision to come to the United States, paving the way for his family to join him in 1972. In 1981, he established his permanent home in San Diego, where he spent the rest of his life working hard, raising his family, and building strong roots in his community.
A talented mechanic with a tireless work ethic, Gonzalo eventually became the proud owner of Garcia’s Auto Repair in Logan Heights, a business that reflected his character—honest, dependable, and built on dedication. Through his work, he earned the respect of customers, friends, and neighbors who trusted not only his skills but also his integrity.
At home, Gonzalo found joy in the simple moments that brought family together. He loved grilling carne asada, making his famous camarones a la diabla, and enjoying the wonderful meals prepared by his beloved wife. He also enjoyed watching boxing matches, often surrounded by cold beers, great food, and the company of family and friends.
Music was always part of Gonzalo’s life. No matter what he was doing, working at his shop, maintaining his yard, or playing a game of pool, there was always music playing nearby. The sounds of Ramón Ayala, Los Invasores de Nuevo León, Los Cadetes de Linares, and Vicente Fernándezoften filled the air. For Gonzalo, music was more than background sound; it was part of who he was. In many ways, his life was defined by music, family, and hard work.
Gonzalo was also known for his playful spirit. He loved making people laugh and was always ready with a harmless prank. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially remember his sense of humor, whether it was filling Easter eggs with flour instead of candy or gluing coins to the ground just to watch people try to pick them up. Those small moments of laughter captured the joy he found in being surrounded by the people he loved most.
Later in life, after retiring, he dedicated much of his time to caring for and spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness. Gonzalo was known for being very detailed, organized, and dependable, qualities that guided both his work and the way he lived his life.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Maria Rosario Garcia, his daughters Claudia, Bonnie, and Denise, his six grandchildren, and his three great-grandchildren.
Gonzalo’s life was defined by hard work, devotion to family, and the quiet strength of a man who built a life through sacrifice and love. His presence will be deeply missed at family gatherings, around the grill, and during those simple moments that meant the most to him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the family he raised, the values he instilled, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Gonzalo nació en El Grullo, Jalisco, México, hijo de Santos y Silvina García. Fue el hijo de en medio entre cuatro hermanas y cuatro hermanos, creciendo en una familia grande donde desde temprana edad aprendió el valor del trabajo duro, la unión familiar y la responsabilidad.
Su vida comenzó en El Grullo antes de mudarse a Ensenada, Baja California, siendo un joven. Fue allí donde conoció al amor de su vida, Maria Rosario García, y juntos se casaron y comenzaron a formar la familia que tanto amó.
En busca de mayores oportunidades, Gonzalo tomó la valiente decisión de emigrar a los Estados Unidos, abriendo camino para que su familia pudiera reunirse con él en 1972. En 1981, estableció su hogar permanente en San Diego, donde pasó el resto de su vida trabajando arduamente, criando a su familia y echando raíces fuertes en su comunidad.
Fue un mecánico talentoso con una ética de trabajo incansable, y con el tiempo llegó a ser el orgulloso dueño de Garcia’s Auto Repair en Logan Heights, un negocio que reflejaba su carácter: honesto, confiable y construido con dedicación.
