GREGORY GENE ROBERSON May 14, 1956 – June 20, 2017Born in Riverside, California in the Spring of 1956 to Stanley F. and Emily L. (Breu) Roberson, “Greg” called Riverside his home through his teenage years, attending Castle View Elementary School, Gage Middle School, and graduating from Riverside “Poly” High School in 1974. Throughout those years he enjoyed camping with friends and family, Boy Scouts (becoming an Eagle Scout in 1971), competing in Motocross, trips with Young Life, and working in the summers alongside his long-time buddies for a local construction company.After graduating in 1980 from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (with an emphasis in engineering), he returned to Riverside. Greg began his architectural career with HMC Architects, Inc. in 1986. In that same year he married his wife, Barbara, and became a Registered Architect in May 1988.In 1990 Greg and Barb moved south to San Diego where Greg continued working for HMC, working within a small team to open a new San Diego office. In 1997 he joined the firm of Milford Wayne Donaldson and expanded his career base into preservation architecture.In August 2001 Greg briefly left corporate employment to design and build a home for the two of them, including a barn for their llamas and sheep. In May 2002 he returned to the formal practice of Architecture with RJC Architects, Inc., and was a Senior Associate and Director of Sustainable Design, AIA, LEED AP at the time of his passing.Greg served his community for almost two decades as a member and past president of the Ramona Design Review Board, and most recently served on the Board of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy for six years. Always a consummate outdoor enthusiast, Greg was passionate about caring for our planet, and daily sought ways – personally and professionally – to improve life where we all live. His personal joys came from being an architect, living life with Barbara and their animals, hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing and reading the works of Edward Abbey, Craig Childs and Bill Bryson.Greg is survived by Barbara, his wife of 30 years; sister Traci (Mike) West; nephew Kyle West of San Diego; father Stanley Roberson of San Marcos (his mom passed away in 2008); sister and brother-in-law Sue and Don Murray of Michigan; numerous cousins, and a very large “pod” of friends.Greg is buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, California.
