Shahani, Gulshan's Obituary
Gulshan Shahani, our loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 28, 2025.
She was born to Durgadas and Devi on February 4,1943 in India and grew up in a close, loving family with her parents and two sisters, Chandra and Nargis. During the Partition, the family fled from Sindh to Bombay and started life anew. Though there were tough times, the strong bonds of immediate and extended family provided the foundation for the girls to thrive. Gulshan lived with her parents and sisters through college and until she left for the United States when she married her husband, Ramesh, at the age of 24. Going from life surrounded by lots of family, big city adventures, a fulfilling job at the Bank of Tokyo, and tropical weather to a new country, and knowing only her husband in Ohio where the winters were so frigid, was the shock of her lifetime.
With a warm smile and infectious personality, she soon made friends and welcomed two children, Arvin and Annik, into a home filled with so much love. Life took her from Ohio to Singapore to California, and in every place, she made our house into a home with family, friends, love and laughter. She was generous with her time, welcoming to everyone, and supportive of all our interests. Our house was always the one where our friends gathered, and no one left hungry after the most amazing home cooked meals that our mom would make. She was so beautiful, always so well put together with her carefully chosen outfits, jewelry and makeup. She loved listening to Hindi music and watching Bollywood movies. We watched more of these in the last two weeks with our mom than we have ever in our entire lives.
She loved us fiercely and unconditionally, was so kind to friends and strangers alike, and worked tirelessly to give us what we needed. And when her grandkids, Sonia, Sameer and Jayen, came along, there was no sweeter, more gentle, more fun and loving nani.
We miss her dearly and will forever remember her in our hearts.
