Halisteen Bellamy's Obituary
Halisteen Bellamy was born on May 14, 1931 to the late Luther Steele and Teena Cochran-Steele in Conway, South Carolina. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Greater Saint James AME Church. She attended and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1951. She was married for a short time before meeting the late Alton Homer Bellamy and in the late 1950’s she moved to Seattle, Washington with him where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They moved to San Diego, California in 1959, and united in Holy Matrimony. To this union four children were conceived Shirley, Kathryn, the late Luther J. Bellamy and Ruth. She attended Calvary Baptist Church under the late Dr. S.M. Lockridge in the early years upon coming to San Diego before becoming a long time member of Logan Temple AME Church where the current Pastor is Nailah Hubbard. She was affectionately known to many as “Gram”; she loved people and she worked as an aide at Logan Elementary school before she transitioned her career to serve at IHSS as a caregiver, serving seniors for over 30 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always wanted everyone to have what they needed and when her family was happy she was happy! Her love was unconditional; she loved everyone as they were; you did not need to impress her in any way! She never complained even in her illness- She enjoyed being a part of the Seniors 50 Plus ministry at New Creation Church, watching cartoons and her favorite television shows. She really loved to watch people when she was out in public. Before her illness you would always find her sitting at the kitchen table rading her bible. Her smile will be missed by many! Gram was called home on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10:30 am. She was preceded in death by her husband Alton H. Bellamy, son Luther J. Bellamy, grandson Jerome R.
