Harold Jow's Obituary
Harold Jow was born on May 26, 1919 in Oakland, California. He was the second oldest among his five siblings. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated with an Economics degree in May 1941.He then attended the San Francisco Theological Seminary and received a Master in Divinity degree in May 1944. He was ordained on April 30, 1944.From June to August 1944, he was the Associate Pastor at Japanese Internment camps in Topaz, Utah. In September of that same year, he began his pastorate at the Beretania Church of Christ in Honolulu, Hawaii and continued there until June 1956 when he returned to the mainland to further his studies at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey for a Master in Theology degree.He became the Pastor at San Diego Chinese Community Church in July 1957 and then returned to the Honolulu Beretania Church of Christ, now known as the United Church of Christ – Judd Street – in March 1963.Rev. Jow spent a total of 35 years as a pastor in Hawaii. Throughout his 41 years of ministry and during his retirement, Rev. Jow lived a life of service to others. He was a humble, well-traveled scholar who focused his time and talents on helping others near and far through numerous outreach endeavors.He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian Don, and survived by his second wife, Christine Sue, as well as 5 children from his first marriage to Lillian and 4 step-children from Christine and numerous grandchildren.
