Mr. Hashu G. Waney's Obituary
HASHU GANGARAM WANEY, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2010, surrounded by his beloved family – son Naveen Waney, Michelle (daughter in law), Justin & Jennae (grandchildren), daughter Shalina Urbonas, John (son in law), Joshua & Arjun (grandchildren), and daughter Nita. Now, 20 years later, Hashu is reunited with his beloved wife, Usha. Hashu and Usha will always be remembered as soul-mates, and a vibrant, jubilant couple, always laughing and having fun when surrounded with family and friends.Hashu was born in Karachi, Pakistan (now India). He moved to India with his parents, Gangaram and Rukmani Wadhwani, and siblings Tulsi, Lila, Narain, Chandru, and Shyam. He is survived by the latter four, and their families.Hashu started his career with the British Navy – Merchant Marines, as a proud Indian sailor who was “Third” in command. Hashu always entertained everyone with colorful stories of his travels all over the world. In particular, he always told the story of how one of their young passengers, a 13-year old girl, fell overboard accidentally, and he jumped off the deck almost 100 ft into icy waters to save her. He was a true sailor who navigated through life as surely as the stars shone every night. An unforgettable vision is one of Hashu in his crisp white Navy uniform that he proudly touted during their wedding reception in September 1961. When the young, handsome Hashu met Usha it was ‘love at first sight’. The young couple married in September of 1961 in Bombay, India. Shortly after that they started their family and later moved to Antwerp, Belgium where they spent a few years trying to raise their family on unfamiliar grounds. They later moved to the U.S. and ended up in San Diego where the family has continued to live. Hashu worked for almost 30 years as V.P. of Warehousing Operations & Distribution for family owned Beeba’s Creations. Arjun Waney, Hashu’s cousin, was his employer, but above all, Arjun and Judy were loved dearly and respected by Hashu and Usha; no major personal or work decisions were made without first consulting Arjun.Hashu will always be remembered for his ‘happy-go-lucky’ nature, the mischievous grin on his face when he was conjuring up some ‘antic’ to spring on his family, and his boundless energy to ‘party’ at short notice! He spent many hours on the bay and the ocean on his boat, “Princess Helen”, whom he often referred to (with Usha’s approval), as his “second love”. Hashu always liked to dabble with “cooking”, and knowingly or unknowingly conjured up many contraptions, often unable to recall what exactly he had included in the many ingredients that went into the dishes!! His many interests included sailing, deep sea fishing, swimming, hunting, darts and his pets, especially his little Raja, whom he adored. Friends and family alike, recall memories of Hashu as the “life of the party’ with an immeasurable zest for life. Hashu’s softer side is one that has probably touched every person he has ever known. As he used to say in his own words, he would take “his shirt off his back” to help anyone, unconditionally. He helped many family members and friends get a “start” in life, he was kind, helpful and compassionate and always gave others the “benefit of the doubt”, never being judgmental or critical.Hashu Waney lives on in all of us in some way or another as a good friend, a business acquaintance, a brother, an in-law, a husband, a father and most importantly a good soul. May we all celebrate his life by embodying his free spirit and happy nature and may he live that way for ever in each one of us!Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Memorial, 4300 Imperial Ave., SD CA 92113, on Wednesday, 02/03/10 at 12:00 pm.In lieu of flowers you can make a charitable donation to Community Options, http://www.communityoptions.org/ in memory of Hashu and Usha Waney.
