Heinrich Albert Matschuck's Obituary
Heinrich Albert Matschuck, better known as Henry, passed away on November 25, 2016. He was 91 years old. Henry was born in the small fishing village of Sarkau, Germany to Julius and Anna Faust Matschuck on October 16, 1925. At 16 ½ years of age he was conscripted into the German army and became part of their tank corp until the end of the war. He immigrated to Canada in 1953. Henry met Alfreda Campbell Hastings in British Columbia in July of 1959 through friends. They were married on December 19,1959. They left Canada in November,1960 and decided to settle in San Diego. They bought a home there in 1961 and lived in that same house until illness prevented them from remaining there. Both became U.S. Citizens on April 22, 1966. They joined the Faith Lutheran Church on Orange Ave. in 1963 and they both said since they did not have any children that the church became their family. Henry loved fishing, camping, swimming and sailing. He actually built their first sail boat out of metal according to Freda. Traveling and partying with their friends from church was also something that brought a lot of enjoyment. What Henry also loved doing was fixing things around the house and garden. He kept every piece of wood, metal, and paper. He never threw anything away that might be useful in the future for some household project. In the last year or so of his life, Henry just enjoyed sharing a beer and talking with his next door neighbors about events in his past. Henry retired from City Chevrolet after working there for 34 years as a Certified Automotive Technician. Henry is survived by Alfreda his wife of 56 years and nephew Hermann Matschuck of Monchengladbach, Germany and cousins Margot Schultz of Seevetal, Germany and Waltraud (Trudy) F. Williams of Lakewood, WA. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of the Last Supper in the Bible Mausoleum where Henry’s body will be entombed, located at Greenwood Memorial Park on December 7, 2016 at 1000. Pastor Donald Brenner officiating.
