Henry M. Cruz's Obituary
Henry was the eldest of twelve children born to Jose and Andrea Cruz in Agana, Guam. In February 1931, Henry joined the United States Navy and proudly served during the World War II. He survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, while aboard his ship, the USS Arizona (BB39). He was one of only 333 servicemen to survive the USS Arizona bombing that day. At this time of passing he was one of sixteen living survivors of the USS Arizona (BB39). Henry was employed by the Civil Service, where during his career he earned numerous special achievement awards for the innovation of new work methods and various tool designs. Throughout his years he enjoyed tending to his yard, managing and coaching Little League, playing bingo and watching Padres Baseball. After retiring his passion became caring for and spending time with his grandchildren. Henry is survived by his wife Lorraine of 57 years; four children Doris Morales (Teodoro), Lydia Guerrero (Gabriel), Henry R. Cruz (Kelly) and Cynthia Villaseñor (Adrian); fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brothers Joe, Eddie and Herbert; sisters Mae and Lillian. Henry Mesa Cruz will forever be loved and honored by his family, friends and countrymen for his contributions to our lives and service to his country.
