Henry Charles Cunningham Jr. departed this life at the age of 89 on March 25, 2019 in Perris, California. He was born January 4, 1930, in Sullgent, Alabama to Henry Charles Cunningham Sr. and late Mordean Metcalf. Henry Charles Cunningham Jr. was the eldest child. He attended the Dora Alabama Public School. Henry played baseball in the Negro League.In 1948, Henry met Lillian Imogene Whitsitt. Henry married Lillian Imogene Whitsitt in 1949 and they moved to California from Birmingham, Alabama in 1962 with four of their five children. Their youngest Leonard Cunningham was born in San Diego. To this union 5 children were born: Charles Cunningham (deceased), Mark Cunningham, Marjorie Cunningham, Robert E. Cunningham (deceased), and Leonard E.Cunningham. Henry was a devoted husband, father and provider.For many years Henry Cunningham worked for General Dynamics until he retired after 35 years. In Henry’s lifetime he worked many Jobs to help support his family. For example, he would paint cars and RVs in his garage. When Henry was not working he enjoyed watching his Oakland Raiders on TV. Henry was a big Raider fan! Henry Cunningham was a father who did his best along with his wife to raise their children with basic respectability. Henry Cunningham was also a 33rd Degree Mason in San Diego, California.Henry Cunningham was married to his loving wife Lillian Imogene Cunningham for 65 years. When all the children were on their own, Henry and his wife loved to travel. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and outside of the United States to China, Africa, and many other countries in Europe. They also enjoyed jumping into their RV and going camping with friends and family. When Henry Cunningham was not traveling he was enjoying his retirement. Henry leaves us with many memories.Henry leaves behind Mark Cunningham (Menifee, CA), Marjorie Cunningham (San Diego, CA) and Leonard Cunningham Sr. (San Diego, CA). Henry Cunningham also leaves brother Joseph Cunningham (Brenda) of Birmingham, AL and his sisters: Lizzie Dean Nelson (deceased), Annie Lee Cleveland (deceased), Brenda Cunningham Hall (Redus) of Chula Vista, CA. Henry also leave behind 8 grandchildren: Adam Cunningham (Upland, CA), Leonard Cunningham Jr. (San Diego, CA), Charles Cunningham (San Diego, CA), Michael Cunningham (San Diego, CA), Shermane Cunningham (Houston, TX), Nyla Cunningham ( Houston, TX) Eugenia Cunningham (San Diego, CA), Henry Cunningham (San Diego, CA) and Madeleen Cunningham (San Diego, CA) along with loving great grandchildren, loving relatives and friends.
