The absolute best childhood memory I have of my Grampa is the time he & my Gramma took me to Disneyland [just the three of us] as a special 9th birthday gift! I don’t think they expected me to, but I insisted they rode the roller coasters with me. Grampa accompanied me on the Matterhorn (Splash Mountain), & at one point mid-ride he hollered, “DON’T TELL YOUR GRAMMA I WAS YELLING LIKE THIIIIIIIIIIS!!” 💜 To this day, the thought of my super tough Grampa letting his guard down to be vulnerable with me on a Disneyland ride warms my soul & makes me smile.
My Grampa was an exemplary man who filled every void in the lives of his grandkids who needed it. He was a lifeline of sorts for me, an unwavering source of [at times, very tough] love . My Grampa showed me how to be a supportive family member, regardless of personal feelings towards any situation. He was always so unapologetically himself- a stern yet nurturing man, & I loved that about him whole heartedly. My Grampa was everything that I strive to be now as a devoted Mom to Gavino & partner to my husband, just like he was for my Mom [his daughter] & my Gramma. To say I feel blessed that our God put this man in my life would be an understatement, I could never express in words how much my Grampa meant to me. May he rest physically, but his legacy live on forever in our hearts. I will always love you, Grampa!!
