Hernani Cobanbang Asuncion's Obituary
Hernani Cobangbang Asuncion was born on August 1, 1954 in Ilocos Sur, Philippines and is the sixth child of Avelino and Amparo Asuncion, both educators. His father, Avelino is also a World War II Veteran. He attended the University of the East in The Philippines where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He finished his Masters Degree at The University of Illinois in 1985. After graduating, he began his career as a Biology and Chemistry teacher at the Marikina Institute of Science and Technology in the Philippines. He also worked as a chemist for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia.He then married his love, Myrna in 1982, and remained married 35 years later. In 1996, He immigrated with his family to San Diego to be with the rest of his immediate family members. Since moving, he has worked for CP Kelco for 12 years and at PaxVax for 5 years. His most proud achievement is his marriage, his children and his grandchildren.Hernani loved to play basketball with his siblings, going out dancing and parties, horse racing, playing cards, Jai-alai and is a member of the religious organization, The Columbian Squires. Hernani enjoyed being with his friends, Freddie Serrano, Thomas “Boy” Dizon, Jimmy Ereso, Tibbon Landig and Roy Calleja. His favorite artists are The Eagles and The Bee Gees and his favorite songs were “Love Will Keep Us Alive” and “What A Wonderful World”He is survived by his wife, Myrna, his five children Marco, Hernani Jr., Marvin, Myron and Macy. He has three grand-children: Ellie May, Aleah and Alana. He is also survived by his seven siblings: Virgilio, Elmer, Maria, Dani, Ruben, Evelyn and Cesar.He was hard-working, supportive, intelligent, fun-loving, and a dedicated man.
