Hilarion P. Onia's Obituary
Hilarion “Larry” Parel Onia was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother & compadre. He left this world on December 17, 2020 – in his home in San Diego, surrounded by his family. At the age of 81, he succumbed to a relentless battle with health issues.
Hilarion was born to Eufemia & Tomas Onia on October 21, 1939. He lived a modest life in Alaminos, Pangasinan. After a few years of college, he joined the United States Navy in 1967. He served for 20 years as an electrician before retiring as a Chief. In 1971, he married Emerita Racho. Together they have 3 children: Marie, Aileen and Oliver. After his eventual retirement from civil service in 2003, he took his honorary occupation as “Papa Yayee” & babysitter to his only grandchildren, Mia Grace & Audrey Marie.
Prior to his health issues, Hilarion was an avid gardener, mechanic, photographer, bowler, and was basically “Macgyver” before the show existed. He had a terrific sense of humor & was infamous for his one-liners, even until his last weeks of life. He was a man of a few words, but his quiet assurance, love & sacrifice for his family was palpable. Hilarion was an exemplary & loving father and his legacy will continue to be honored by his family.
He was preceeded in death by his parents: Eufemia & Tomas, his siblings: Julio, Francisca & Agapito & grandson Andrew. He is survived by his siblings Asuncion, Remedios, as well as his aforementioned family.
He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service is scheduled for January 6, 2021 @ 11:00am at St. Charles Catholic Church, 990 Saturn Boulevard, San Diego 92154
