Ida Mae Strickland's Obituary
Reflection of a Pioneer SaintMother Ida Mae (Spencer) Strickland was born to Chatman Spencer & Arilla (Owens) on Wednesday July 7, 1920 in Walker, Arkansas. On May 23, 1939 she married Leroy Rogers, after losing her first husband in a car accident on May 14, 1949 she later married Bennie Lee Strickland. Between both marriages she gave birth to nine children. Mother Strickland was a devoted & loving mother raising & caring for her children until they left home. “She expressed a great Love for her Family.” In the mid to late nineteen forties she became a member of the Jackson Memorial Church Of God In Christ in San Diego, CA under the Pasturage of Bishop J.A. Blake, the father of present International Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake. Mother Strickland had a great love for people with a passion for Missions. She helped needy children, families and even raised her grandkids, Lamont & Tierney Rodgers. This passion was passed to her from her parents “Chatman & Rilla” who both preceded her in death. After the demise of her second husband Bennie L. Strickland Mother Ida Strickland relocated to Wichita Kansas in March of 1996, along with her son Leroy Rogers, his wife and children. She became a member of St. Mark Church Of God In Christ, under the leadership of Bishop J.C. Gilkey. She was a member of the First Sunday Commitment, Anniversary Team, and Kansas Southwest Prayer Ministry and anyplace where she could be of service to others. She was a faithful tither, even when she was no longer able to attend church. She wanted to make sure that her tithes were paid. Mother Strickland believed the Sanctification and true Holiness as taught during the inception of the Church Of God In Christ. She was a stylish dresser and loved to attend the Holy Convocation in Memphis, Tennessee. Due to her failing health, Mother Strickland was moved back to California in 2013 living much closer to her family. She will be missed but her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her parents, Chapman and Arilla, her sister Johnnie Cue Spencer and one brother Robert Owens and two sons, Gary and Steven Strickland, and one daughter Kay Rita Strickland. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Leroy (Sonia) Rogers, Rodney (Charlesetta) Rogers, Renē Strickland, Curtiss (Debbie) Strickland, and two daughters Francine Chisom, and Donna (Vance) Widholm. One brother Vascoe “Ricky” Spencer, Thirty-Six (36) grandchildren, Sixty-Four (64) great grandchildren many great great grand children and a host of relatives and friends.
