Ismael Gomez Portillo's Obituary
Ismael Gomez Portillo, 89, born in Chihuahua, Mexico to parents Isabel Portillo Rojas and Tomasa Gomez Carrillo entered God’s rest on April 06, 2023, in San Diego, California. A resident of San Diego for over 20 years. Ismael developed his tireless work ethic by working on the Chepe train track from Chihuahua through the Sierra Tarahumara to his hometown in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
His adventurous spirit brought him to California in the 60’s, where he raised his family and began an industrious career as a machinist for Hi-Shear that included moonlighting as a detailed upholsterer, a dedicated beekeeper, and savvy real estate owner on the weekends. His retirement lifestyle included trips to Home Depot for his never ending DIY projects, enjoying Norteño music and his daily video chats with family.
Ismael is predeceased by his former companion, Maria Alvarez, survived by his former spouse, Emma Rivera Portillo, their grateful children, Edna, Hector, Jesus and Noemi, his dutiful sons-in-law, Robert and Manuel, and loving grandchildren, Hugo and Esteban.
Ismael was also honored to have been able to share his life with beloved siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces, all of which experienced our father’s love without end. He will forever be missed yet never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
