Jack Wilbur Kriege Ph.D.

Jack Wilbur Kriege passed away February 1st 2026 at the age of 93. He was born in 1933 in Edwardsville, Illinois to Wilbur Eugene Kriege and Ella Marguerite (Nash) Kriege. His family moved to Riverside, California in 1937 when he was a young boy.
Jack married Mary Jean (Lansbery) Brown in 1961. Each had three children by previous marriage and added two sons, creating a large blended family with 8 children. He was a devoted and loving husband to Jean for 64 years. They were both involved in various ministries at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California, where Jack was an elder and served in strategic ministry and pastoral care.
Jack had a life-long interest in English and literature. After retiring from a career of over 30 years in public school teaching and administration, he continued to devote his energies to writing and education. He was a published author of two fiction novels -- “The Healers” (1993) and “The System” (1995) – as well as a variety of non-fiction works/articles. Additionally, he served as the Registrar for the Institute for Creation Research (ICR) Graduate School and was also an English professor at National University.
Jack is survived by his wife Jean; children Bruce Kriege (Anita), Carla Mills, Lori Stancliff, Paula Moring (Chuck), Steven Kriege, David Kriege (Marcy) and Ron Kriege (Lily), as well as 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Barb Kriege (Ken); and his younger brother Gary Kriege (Jane).
He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur and mother Ella; sister Lois Fitch (Bob) and twin brothers Richard Kriege (Peg) and Ken Kriege (Marge); and son Ken Kriege.
Jack leaves a legacy of his strong Christian faith, his gentle and patient spirit, and his kind heart which was evident to his family, friends, and all who came in contact with him.
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Shadow Mountain Community Church, 2100 Greenfield Drive, El Cajon, California 92019.
