James "Chago" Cano's Obituary
CANO – James “Chago”, born in Brawley, California on July 25, 1933, since 1937 he was a resident of San Diego, passed away on February 18, 2016 at the age of 82. He is survived by his sons David and Anthony Cano (Mother – Wanda Cano), and sisters and brothers Sara (Collins), Ruth (Alvarez), Raymond Cano and John Cano. He was preceded in death by his beloved partner of 30 years Marian Alvarez (Marian’s survived children – Evie Martinez, Mark and Andrew Alvarez), his parents Jose F. Cano and Angela M. Cano, son James Cano (Mother – Barbara Hilton); brothers Daniel Cano and David Cano and sister Nellie Cano. At the age of seventeen, Mr. Cano proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For an estimated 20 years he served as an aircraft mechanic at Convair and another 20 years as a civil service mechanic for the U.S. Navy. In his retirement years, Chago was a die-hard Charger fan and liked going to Barona Casino once a month on Thursdays wearing his “lucky” blue shirt to play the 5 cent slot machines. He especially liked the “Cleopatra,” “Mermaids” and “Top Hat” Machines, and was known to win more than he lost.Viewing and Funeral Services will be on Friday, March 4 at Greenwood Mortuary in the Salli Lynn Chapel, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. Viewing will be from 10 AM to 1 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM. Internment immediately following.
