James John Eischen's Obituary
Dr. James (Jim) John Eischen was born on December 11, 1934, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Carl and Marie (Kohns) Eischen.
After graduating from high school, he attended Creighton University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in pre-dentistry and biology before attending Creighton University School of Dentistry.
While an undergraduate at Creighton, Jim participated in the U.S. Army ROTC program before choosing to serve his country through the United States Navy. He served on active duty as a Navy officer in the Philippines and Japan during the late 1950s.
In 1961, Jim married the love of his life, Nada Marie Tangway, in Osaka, Japan. Together they shared more than sixty years of marriage and raised four children: James Jr., Alisa, Anita, and Stephanie. Their family grew to include twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
After returning from active duty, Jim continued his service in the U.S. Navy Reserve while earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He later received a Master of Science in Orthodontics from Marquette University and ultimately retired from the Navy Reserve with the rank of Captain.
Following his orthodontic training, Dr. Eischen established an orthodontic practice in Chula Vista, California, where he cared for generations of patients before retiring in 2002.
Service was a cornerstone of Jim's life. He was deeply involved with Lions Clubs International, serving in leadership roles at the local, national, and international levels. He also remained active in Creighton University's alumni organizations and supported numerous charitable efforts benefiting Navy families, veterans, and faith-based ministries. A devoted Roman Catholic, he lived his faith through generosity, compassion, and service to others.
Jim was also an avid sailor. As a Flag Member of the San Diego Yacht Club and a longtime boat owner, he enjoyed years of cruising, racing, and friendships on the water.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nada Marie Eischen. He is survived by his four children, twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother, Robert Eischen of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and his sister, Joan Eischen Monteverde of Yorba Linda, California.
Dr. Eischen will be remembered for his devotion to family, service to country and community, steadfast faith, and the lasting impact he made on those whose lives he touched.
